All New 2021 Volvo Models Achieve IIHS TSP+ Award

Volvo broke a lot of safety records in 2021. As of April, Volvo is the only car manufacturer to receive a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) for every single vehicle in their 2021 lineup. Volvo also has the most single-year Top Safety Pick+ awards since the TSP+ awards began in 2013. And, the new 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric EV is the first fully electric small SUV to receive the Top Safety Pick+ award! Volvo is known for safety, and the IIHS awards confirm that every new Volvo is about as safe as you can currently get.

 

The IIHS Top Safety Pick awards are determined by the results of six crashworthiness tests and multiple measures of crash avoidance and mitigation, or how well the vehicle can prevent a crash from happening in the first place. The IIHS ratings range from Poor - Marginal - Acceptable - Good or from Basic - Advanced - Superior. Vehicles can achieve no ranking, a Top Safety Pick award or a Top Safety Pick+ award. To achieve the highest Top Safety Pick+ designation, the vehicle must receive a Good or Superior in all categories. 

 

All new 2021 Volvo models received the Top Safety Pick+ designation! That means every new 2021 Volvo received a Good ranking for each of the six Crashworthiness tests:

And, famously, the all-new, all-electric 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge P8 Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) was ranked as a Top Safety Pick+ winner in April 2021. The very first all-electric small SUV to win the Top Safety Pick+ achievement.

 

The 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge saw the debut of new safety sensors to better gauge and prevent on-road incidents. Volvo also introduced speed caps in new 2021 Volvos and run-off road protection.
