The stylish new Volvo XC40 offers a lot of space, style and performance in a compact design. While it is the smaller of the Volvo SUVs, the XC40 offers the best in thoughtful Scandinavian design with clever storage spaces tucked throughout the sleek, spacious cabin. Now available as a Pure Electric Recharge model, the new Volvo XC40 is a high-performance, practical and attractive compact SUV for the modern driver.
As the first foray into electrification for Volvo, the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric led the way in Volvo’s push to be 50% hybrid and 50% all-electric by 2025. Meaning no more gas-only models will be introduced. The Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric joins the current family of Volvo plug-in hybrid SUVs: Volvo XC60 Recharge, XC90 Recharge; hybrid sedans: Volvo S60 Recharge and S90 Recharge; and hybrid wagon Volvo V60 Recharge. The all-new Volvo C40 Recharge is Volvo’s first dedicated all-electric car to hit the U.S. market and will arrive later in 2021.
2021 Volvo XC40

- Leather upholstery

2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge
From the outside, you may not be able to tell the difference between the gas-powered Volvo XC40 and the all-electric Volvo XC40 Recharge, but you sure will notice once you start driving. The all-new Volvo Xc40 Recharge is Volvo’s first all-electric SUV and boasts 402 combined horsepower with standard AWD and up to 223 miles* of electric range.
Instant electric torque helps the new XC40 Recharge jump from 0-60 in just 4.7 seconds (compared to about 6.2 seconds in the gas-powered version). Also unique to the Volvo XC40 Recharge is that Google is built into the in-car infotainment. Its multimedia system utilizes Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Play and, now, over-the-air updates. Don’t worry Apple users, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are also supported.
The 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge gets a few more premium features than its gas sibling, including a Harman Kardon audio system and extra storage space thanks to the front trunk - or frunk. The new XC40 Recharge also features more sustainable materials throughout the cabin, including carpeting made from recycled plastics.
The other big difference between the 2021 Volvo XC40 and XC40 Recharge is the price. The all-electric version will cost you more up front but saves you money on gasoline, especially with the free subscription to Electrify American, which gives you discounted energy for one year**. Not to mention the added benefit of knowing you are not adding new emissions into the air while driving the new Volvo Recharge Pure Electric SUV.
No matter which new Volvo XC40 you choose, enjoy spacious seating for five, a smooth ride, responsive handling, advanced technology and Volvo’s famous safety features. Both models use regenerative braking to improve efficiency and keep things pretty simple as far as options and trims go.
